One of the two half-naked men found lying helpless in a gutter at Alagbado area of Lagos State on Monday morning could have survived if he had been urgently given medical assistance, eyewitnesses have said.

Early on Monday morning, residents of Adura area at Alagbado woke to see the two men in the gutter opposite Robert Sabulo House but nobody was able to give details of how the bodies were dumped in their neighbourhood.

Aderemi Tijani, one of the eyewitnesses, told FIJ: “We saw stains of blood on the ground near the culvert, which showed that these bodies were dragged into the gutter.

“No one knows anything about how they got there but I assume it must have happened overnight.”

FIJ gathered that the attention of the Police officers on patrol were drawn to the situation but they didn’t offer any help at that moment.

Another eyewitness who preferred not to be named further said one of the helpless men was still breathing and “may have made it alive if he got help but no one was bold enough to near him after the Police left too”.

In the video shared with FIJ, some other eyewitnesses were also heard saying: “If they take this one to the hospital, he would survive.”

“Just this morning; we don’t know what they have done. One is still breathing while the other is dead,” another person noted.

Although FIJ could not ascertain if the other half-naked man survived, it was subsequently gathered that the bodies were removed that evening.

When FIJ contacted Muyiwa Adejobi, the Lagos police spokesman, to find out about the situation, he asked the reporter to forward details of the area to him via a text message for verification.

A few hours after, he informed FIJ he had forwarded the details of the incident to the Divisional Police Officer and “would revert soon” but he had not done so as of press time.
