13.07.2021 news Nigerian Soldier Linked to Murder of Female Student Found Dead in her Room

The Nigeria Police has linked James Matol, a Nigerian soldier, to the murder of Jennifer Ugadu, the 23-year-old student of Niger Delta University, Bayelsa State, found dead in her apartment.

Confirming the incident to Daily Trust on Tuesday, SP Asinnim, the Bayelsa State Police spokesperson, said one of the deceased’s friends stumbled on a chat in which the soldier admitted to committing the crime.

“Preliminary investigation reveals that the deceased was shot in her apartment by her boyfriend, one James Matol, who is allegedly a member of the Nigerian Army,” he said.

“Investigations also reveal that the deceased was last seen with the boyfriend on 11th July 2021.The Commissioner of Police Bayelsa State Command, CP Mike Okoli fsi, has ordered for discreet Investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death of the student.”

Ugadu’s neighbours revealed that her thumb was almost cut off and that her room was scattered, with blood stains seen around the apartment.  

Several social media reports also revealed that the soldier killed Jennifer over allegations of cheating.
