A Commander of the Amotekun Corps Operatives in Ibarapa North Local Government of Oyo State, simply identified as ‘Muri’, has been killed in multiple attacks by armed men identified as Fulani herdersmen in Igangan, Ayete and Igbo-Ora communities, FIJ can report.

Multiple sources confirmed that the attacks, which lasted close to an hour, started at about 6pm on Friday.

As soon as the news of the attack broke, rumors circulated that the assailants were officers of the Nigeria Customs Services because some of them were dressed in their uniforms.

But Lawal Olawale, an eyewitness, however, confirmed that the assailants were Fulani who disguised as state agents to aid their infiltration.

“How can they be Customs officers yet shoot indiscriminately at civilians and local security operatives?” he asked. “Some of them indeed wore Customs uniforms but I can confirm they are all Fulani.”

Another source told FIJ that the assailants did not stay long in Igangan, saying “they didn’t go beyond Jabele junction” before heading for a nearby community.

FIJ confirmed that the Amotekun commander was shot dead at Igboora.

Apart from the Amotekun operative, FIJ was also able to confirm that at least two other persons were killed in Ayete and Igangan.

Adewale Osifeso, the Oyo State police spokesman, was yet to answer his calls as of press time while Yemi Ogunseye, the spokesman of Amotekun Corps in Oyo State, promised to forward the press release to FIJ as soon as they are able to verify issues.

Meanwhile, the attack on Igangan is the second of its type in one month.

After their last attack on June 4, a source had told FIJ that the attackers threatened to return, having killed many people and burnt several markets at that time.
