The Independent National Electoral Council (INEC) has published the voter register on its website for the first time, and it will be accessible for a period of two weeks starting Saturday, November 12.

Along with the online display, the register is being displayed across all 774 local government areas in the country.

According to the commission, the register is displayed online to enable easy access and allow voters verify their data and notify them of any inconsistencies before the general election. Registrants can view the register for their states, local government areas, registration areas and polling units on INEC’s website.

INEC had announced on Thursday that it would publish the preliminary register containing 93,522,272 registrants on its website between November 12 and 25 as part of a joint responsibility between the commission and citizens to clean the register in preparation for a credible election.

The register displays registrants’ name, image, date of birth, gender and voter identification number (VIN), with provisions to raise objections or make a claim. These claims, according to INEC, can range from omission of names of registered voters, corrections to individuals’ personal details on the register, objection against the inclusion of persons unqualified to vote to the identification of names of dead persons on the register, and would only be entertained during the display period of the voters register.
