Daniel Amah, the Kano State Assistant Commissioner of Police, received an award of integrity yesterday for turning down a $200,000 bribe.

The Centre for Awareness on Justice and Accountability (CAJA) and The Penlight Centre presented the award to Amah at a public lecture tagged “Promoting Integrity as a Way of Fighting Corruption” in Kano.

A case was brought before Amah in April 2022 about a man identified as Ali Zaki, who had connived with armed robbers to rob a Bureau De’Change operator he earlier met to change $750,000.

Zaki offered Amah a bribe of $200,000 to suppress the case when it became apparent that he (Zaki) was the principal suspect in the robbery, but the officer declined the offer.

Following Amah’s exceptional action, the Police Service Commission (PSC) promoted him to the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police and gave him a million naira just last month.

President Muhammadu Buhari also honoured Amah with the 2022 Public Service Integrity Award in October based on the recommendation of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC).
