12.08.2021 news Boko Haram Commander Who Killed Soldiers in Gwoza Surrenders to Army

Amir Adamu Rugu Rugu, a top Boko Haram leader reported to have killed many solders in Borno State, has surrendered to the Nigerian Army.

FIJ understands that Amir Adamu Rugu Rugu orchestrated numerous attacks against soldiers and other road users in Gwoza, specifically around Mandara Hill and Sambisa Forest.

A source in Borno told FIJ that Amir Adamu surrendered himself to the to the 26 Task Force Brigade in company of his three wives and many children. He also surrendered his weapons.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Army had said that at least 1,000 Boko Haram/Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) militants had surrendered to its forces.

However, Onyema Nwachukwu, the Army’s spokesman, denied there was any plan to release two top repentant Boko Haram commanders.
