Policemen attached to the Lagos State Election Monitoring Team have chased and arrested some youths playing football on the streets of Bariga, Shomolu, Lagos.

FIJ learned that the incident happened in on Saturday morning, just as voters in the state were preparing to go to the polls to elect a new president and new members of the National Assembly.

The armed officers also took away the rubber tyres that served as the young people’s goal posts. The incident happened on Laide street, a popular location in Bariga.

“The incident happened at 8:18 am. We did not even know they were coming. They just arrived in their van from nowhere and started chasing us,” one of the youths, who asked not to be named, told FIJ.

The source also told FIJ that his shoes were taken by the security agents when they could not catch up with him during their chase.
