Police officers attached to Akwanga Division, Nasarawa State, have arrested Abubakar Likita, a suspected criminal, with 260 rounds of live ammunition, 53 empty magazines, a motorcycle and N38, 500 on his way to Jos, the capital of Plateau State.

According to Ramhan Nansel, Nasarawa Police spokesperson, Likita, a 35-year-old man, had been on the command’s “wanted list for offences ranging from armed robbery to kidnapping” before his apprehension on Saturday.

Nansel said Adesina Soyemi, Nasarawa State Commissioner of Police, had ordered that the case be transferred from Akwanga Division to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Lafia, for investigation.

Plateau State, where the suspect was headed before his arrest, has become volatile in the last few weeks owing to violent clashes between local farmers and nomadic herders.

On Wednesday, FIJ reported that over 70 people had been killed between July and August in a series of attacks within the Bassa Local Government Area of the state.
