Mahmood Yakubu, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) chairman, has announced the postponement of elections in 141 polling units in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, until Sunday.

The commission’s chairman made the announcement in Abuja on Saturday, stating that the voting exercise was disrupted in wards 4, 6, 8 and 14 in Yenagoa.

FIJ had reported how voters in wards 4 and 6 in the LGA protested the absence of electoral materials, marching all the way to INEC headquarters.

Several voters across the state’s capital told FIJ that INEC officials had not arrived at their polling units.

In a video earlier obtained by FIJ, a man was seen announcing the postponement of the elections to voters in a polling unit situated in Amarata, Yenagoa Local Government Area.

Shortly after that announcement, voters began a peaceful protest.
