Usman Baba, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), has finally received the report of the Special Investigation Panel (SIP) probing the indictment of Abba Kyari, the erstwhile Head of the Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT), by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

The report was submitted on Thursday by Joseph Egbunike, the Chairman of the panel, at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.

IGP Baba had earlier rejected the panel’s submission after lamenting that Kyari was treated soft-handedly. Egbunike, while presenting the report, said “the report submitted is an outcome of a painstaking, transparent and exhaustive investigative process”.

According to a statement signed by Frank Mba, the Police Force’s spokesman, the report presented contained “the case file of the probe, evidence and findings as well as testimonies from DCP Abba Kyari and other persons and groups linked to the matter”.

“The IGP assured that a careful and expeditious review of the recommendations would be undertaken by the Force Management Team and thereafter forwarded to appropriate quarters for necessary action(s),” Mba said in the statement.

“He reiterated as always, the commitment of the Force to justice for all.”

The US District Court of Central California ordered the FBI to track Kyari down for participating in a multi-million dollar fraud. Ramon Abbas, aka Hushpuppi, allegedly paid Kyari up to N8 million to arrest and jail a certain Chibuzo Vincent.

Although he denied having a hand in the fraud, he had been under fire since the allegations were made. He has also lost his position as Head of the Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT).

Meanwhile, on August 7, FIJ had revealed how Egbunike, head of the police panel probing Kyari, joined other police chiefs to approve more than N1billion for sham police transit camp projects in Benue, Bauchi, Plateau, Katsina and Kano states.
