29.03.2023 Featured FIJ Longlisted for One World Media’s Special Award — The 2nd Time in 2 Years

The Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ) has been longlisted for the Special Awards category of the 2023 One World Media Awards.

This is the second year in a row that FIJ has been listed among the top 10 contenders for the award, which honours independent media organisations in the global south that provide an outlet for local people’s voices, create spaces for critical information, and hold those in power accountable.

FIJ is the only Nigerian outlet to be longlisted for the award, with an Ivoirian media outfit and two others from South Africa completing the African contingent.

Also, Damilola Ayeni, FIJ’s editor, is on the long list for the International Journalist of the Year Award for his investigative report, ‘The Thing Within Your Belly’.

Ayeni is joined by Oscar Lopez of The New York Times and Bel Trew of The Independent.

Alex Crawford of Sky News, Ankita Anand of Unbias the News, David Pilling of the Financial Times, Mohammed Amin of Middle East Eye, Philip Obaji Jr. of the Freelance/The Daily Beast, and Vince Chadwick of Devex complete the long list.
