Two of the numerous officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) filmed collecting bribes by FIJ reporters have continued their extortionate activities in the Jibowu area of Yaba, FIJ can report.

When an FIJ reporter visited the site of LASTMA’s bribery and extortion in Jibowu, not a single officer was sighted at first. However, minutes later, our reporter saw Eburagbemi F. G. negotiating a bribe with a commercial driver.

FIJ gathered from commercial drivers in the area that Eburagbemi is notorious for extortion.

“He’s a bastard,” a commercial driver in the area said. “You cannot enter his net without bribing him. It doesn’t matter whether you’re right or wrong.”

Another bus driver also said the LASTMA boss has his ways of tricking drivers into his net.

“That man is a devil,” he said. “So many drivers have fallen into his trap. He knows how to set traps for motorists on the road.”

In the course of FIJ’s undercover investigation, Eburagbemi and one of his colleagues collected a N15,000 bribe from reporters who took a 100-metre one-way diversion in a bid to ‘rescue a very sick person’.

When contacted, Oseni Akerele, LASTMA’s legal adviser, said a committee had been constituted to probe the indicted officials. He also said the agency’s findings would be made public.
