Charles Toye (not real name), a radiator repairer in Enugu State, sent N50,000 from his PalmPay account four weeks ago, but his brother, the intended recipient, was never credited.
Toye told FIJ that he transferred the money to his brother’s First Bank account on March 27, 2023.
According to Toye, the money was transferred so his brother could give it to their mother for her farming business.
The Enugu resident said that when the initial transfer he made failed, he had to send another money to his brother on March 29, hoping PalmPay would work on a timely refund.
“I later reached out to PalmPay’s customer support centre to ask for a refund, but I got a notification from them claiming the money had successfully impacted my brother’s account,” Toye said.
“I found the notification surprising because the money was never credited into his brother’s account as evidenced in an account statement obtained from First Bank.
“I had to send another N50,000 to my brother.”
In a screenshot obtained by FIJ, PalmPay said, “The transfer has been successfully paid and submitted to the recipient bank. Kindly note the actual credited time is subject to the bank.”
FIJ sent messages to PalmPay via its official Twitter page and email address on April 19, but they were not responded to.
FIJ also placed several phone calls to the financial institution, but they were not answered.
Similarly, FIJ contacted First Bank on Tuesday for comments via email, but it had not been responded to at press time. Several calls were also put across to the bank’s phone numbers, but none of them connected.
