On Tuesday, Rosena Akuwuodor, a widow with four children, became homeless, after her brother-in-law, Maxwell Akuwuodor, stormed her residence at Umuokoji Umuorii Uratta, Owerri North Local Government, Imo State, in the company of police officers.

FIJ gathered that with the help of the police officers, Maxwell threw out the belongings of Rosena and her children, evicted them and locked the compound’s gate.

Reginald Akuwuodor, Rosena’s husband, died in September 2020.

According to Ahunna Victory, one of Rosena’s daughters who is a student of Imo State University, Maxwell claimed he had got a judgement against the late Reginald over rightful ownership of the land on which the house was built.

FIJ understands that the land originally belonged to Late Nelson Okuoma Akuwodor, the father of Maxwell and Reginald.

“Presently, we are living on the benevolence of a family friend who gave all five of us a room to stay in. We have also had to share our properties among kind neighbours,” Victory told FIJ.

Victory also said her mother was still trying to get over the shock she experienced during the ill-treatment from her brother-in-law.

“The writ of execution my uncle claimed to have got from the court was wrongly executed. The compound has two buildings; one built by my grandfather, with six apartments; and one built by my father, a five-bedroom flat,” she said.

“The court only ordered that the apartment built by my grandfather be vacated and this is a building nobody even lives in.”

Victory said Maxwell abused the order by evicting her mother and her children from the building and also sealing off the compound.

Uche Ubochi, counsel to the widow and her children, said he would challenge the wrongful execution of the court order with a lawsuit.

When FIJ reached Maxwell via a text message, he asked our reporter to verify the matter in court.

“Please, go to court and verify,” he said.
