Bashiru Lamidi Apapa, the self-proclaimed Labour Party (LP) national chairman, was evicted from the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) on Wednesday.

FIJ saw footage of a commotion between two factions claiming to represent the party.

Apapa had given the lawyers representing LP at the PEPC a 48-hour ultimatum to update him on their ongoing case at the Court of Appeal. He claimed that the Federal High Court in Abuja had ruled in his favour and he was the primary representative of the party.

Apapa clashed with Akin Osuntokun, the director general of Peter Obi’s presidential campaign council, on Wednesday.

“Who are you?” FIJ heard them ask each other.

A court official intervened, and Apapa had to leave the court afterwards.

LP’s official social media account released a short statement on the commotion at the PEPC on Wednesday.

“Rebel former Deputy National Chairman of Labour Party, Lamidi Apapa, made true his threat to truncate the Presidential Election Tribunal by attempting to appear as representative of the Labour Party at the ongoing hearing but was refused by the Tribunal. He was thoroughly disgraced,” LP tweeted.

Peter Obi, LP’s presidential candidate, is challenging the outcome of the 2023 presidential election.

Obi and LP had written to the Appeal Court citing electoral malpractice. They also asked for the disqualification of Bola Tinubu, the president-elect.
