A Nigerian Twitter user has narrated how some kidnappers let go of his younger brother after receiving N20,000.

According to a post shared by the tweep, whose handle is @Jaguar_story, on Friday evening, his younger brother was kidnapped on Thursday.

He said the kidnappers told his mom to pay N100,000 naira, but they ended up accepting N20,000 after the mother negotiated with them.

The Twitter post partly reads: “Kid bro kidnapped! There is an alarming level of hunger in Nigeria. Yesterday, I received a call from my mom informing me that my younger brother had been kidnapped. The kidnappers contacted my dad, who then reached out to me.

“I decided to call them to inquire about their demands, but my impatience got the best of me, so my mom had to speak with them instead. We anticipated that they would ask for a ransom, which they indeed did, and it was a shocking revelation.

“They instructed my mom to bring N100,000, but she negotiated and ultimately ended up paying N20,000 to the PoS account they provided. After the transfer was made, my brother was released.”

For this Twitter user, the incident reflects the prevalent hunger and hardship in Nigeria, which pushes people into criminal activities.

“When my friend learned about my brother’s kidnapping, he was taken aback upon hearing that we had paid only N20,000. This incident highlights the desperate state of hunger prevailing in the area, which drives people to engage in criminal activities,” he noted.

FIJ contacted the tweep for additional information about the kidnap incident, but he had not responded at press time.
