The Abia State Police Command has dismissed Chinedu Nwachukwu, an officer accused of raping a female student of the Abia State Polytechnic.

Geoffrey Ogbonna, Abia police spokesman, said the officer appeared in court on Wednesday for trial.

“He has been dismissed and charged to court,” Ogbonna said. “I don’t have the details of the court proceedings, but I know he has been charged to court today.”

On Thursday, students of the polytechnic blocked the Aba-Owerri road to protest against the rape of the accounting student by the officer.

Although the students were shot at by the police during the protest, Nwachukwu was later arrested for perpetrating the crime that sparked the outrage.
