A video making the rounds has shown some staff members of the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport in Abuja trying to rescue a plane that was stuck in what looked like a mud after it accidentally veered off the runway on Sunday evening.

Authorities at the airport temporarily suspended all flight operations after a Cally Air Boeing 737 300 veered off a runway before eventually burying its nose in the dirt.

In the video, airport officials could be seen trying to dig out the red earth the plane’s front tyres were stuck in with bare hands on Sunday evening.

Cally Air is a local airline run by the Cross River State Government and Aero Contractors.

@aviationbrk, a news platform specialising in local airline news, stated that it took the officials several hours before they could eventually get the stuck tyres out of the muddy area.

Heavy equipment, such as special tractors and cranes, are often deployed to help move or lift aeroplanes in similar situations.
