The Supreme Court has heard the case filed by Ladi Adebutu and the Ogun State People’s Democratic Party (PDP) against the Court of Appeal’s ruling confirming Dapo Abiodun as Ogun State governor.

During the hearing, a five-man panel led by John Okoro postponed judgement after both parties had presented their cases.

Adebutu’s appeal is challenging the results of the March 2023 governorship election in Ogun State and seeking the removal of Dapo Abiodun as the state governor.

The Ogun State PDP and Adebutu are contesting the election results because the Independent National Electoral Commission declared Abiodun the winner despite cancelling the results of 99 polling units.

The panel also dismissed the cross-appeals from the All Progressives Congress and the Independent National Electoral Commission, aligning with the Court of Appeal’s decision.

Dapo Abiodun was declared the winner of the election held on March 23, 2023, after gaining a 13,000-vote margin against his closest opponent. The cancelled votes in the election amounted to 44,000 votes.
