The big explosion that occurred at Dejo Oyelese Close in Ibadan, Oyo State capital, on Tuesday claimed lives and destroyed houses inside and beyond the location of the incident, FIJ can report.

On Wednesday, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) attributed the explosion to improvised explosive devices. The state government had said on Tuesday that 77 people were injured and two people died.

However, eyewitness accounts of the incident revealed that the government underreported casualties in its press release.

Beyond Dejo Oyelase Close, FIJ walked around documenting the impact of the explosion in photos.

“The incident was a major one. I had not experienced that scale before in Ibadan. Yesterday, we had to use makeshift response centres, and there were many casualties,” a man who had helped evacuate some victims of the explosion told FIJ earlier.
