Kayode Oladele, the chairman of the newly-inaugurated Peace-keeping Committee on Farmers-Herders Conflict in Ogun State, says the 10-year-old boy shot in the head by herdsmen will receive adequate support to help him survive his current health challenges.

He said this after FIJ drew his attention to a Twitter complaint by a user @bimbo_cash who stated on Monday evening that the “10-year-old boy was shot in the head by Fulani herdsmen” within Igbo Oro community in Yewa, Ogun State, and also “hacked his stepmother to death, killed his siblings eight months baby”.

The woman added that the father was also shot but she couldn’t confirm where he was rushed to.

She solicited the government’s support for the boy to undergo an urgent surgical operation.

Later on Tuesday, she announced that the Ogun State government had contacted her over the issue.

FIJ reached out to Oladele on Tuesday morning to inquire about the government’s intervention.

Oladele, a former House of Representatives member, stated that the committee, which is just two days old in office, has not been briefed on the situation.

After checking the tweets, Oladele promised to contact the complainant and act promptly based on available information.

“I should do more than promise. He is a young boy that everybody must look after. We will do all we can to look into the issue and save his life and also ensure that the boy returns to school”, he said.

Oladele-led committee is a 20-man team set up last Saturday to look into cases of Fulani herders vs farmers crisis in Ogun rural communities and provide palliative to those affected.
