23.10.2021 news Oyo Prison Attackers Broke Fence With Grenades, Killed Amotekun Officer

An officer of the Amotekun security outfit identified as Babatunde Tijani was shot dead when gunmen attacked Abolongo Correctional Centre, Oyo State, at about 10 pm on Friday, FIJ can report.

Olayinka Olayanju, commandant of the Amotekun Corps in the state, confirmed this to our reporter, adding that the family of the deceased had been briefed on the unfortunate incident.

FIJ further gathered that the attackers facilitated the escape of some inmates after dismantling the fence of the prison using hand grenades.

Earlier, Olanrewaju Anjorin, the Public Relations Officer, Oyo State Command of the Nigeria Correctional Service, told journalists that the command’s controller had gone with other senior officers to the scene.

“They are assessing the situation, looking at the damage done to the facility. A detailed report will be made known later,” he said.
