Ugochukwu Onuoha, a Lagos resident, has bagged a lifetime jail sentence for sexually defiling his neighbour’s five-year-old daughter and damaging her private part.

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency said on Wednesday that there was abundant evidence that Onuoha was guilty of having carnal knowledge of the minor on June 20, 2021.

Justice Rahman Oshodi said Onuoha’s defilement had caused both short-term and long-term impacts to the child’s vagina, including structural damage to her vagina, uterus and surrounding organs.

The judge also maintained that the survivor was a child at the time of defilement and even though the defendant had apologised to the child’s mother with a promise not to do it again, he was still guilty.

“There is abundant evidence that the defendant committed the crime. The evidence shows that the defendant had defiled the survivor, who, to his knowledge, was a child.” Rahman said.

“According to the medical evidence, the psychology of the victim was affected and may require years of counselling. You offered no words of consolation for the survivor and her family and I do not know at this time what the total ramifications will be for the survivor.

“The extent of damage you have done to the survivor for your sexual gratification is mind-boggling and you did not show any sign of remorse.”

Onuoha had committed the crime at Achakpo St., Olodi Apapa, in Lagos.

Justice Rahman also ordered that his name be registered in the Lagos State Sexual Offences Register.
