Two days after returning from Riyadh in Saudi Arabia, President Muhammadu Buhari has embarked on his sixth foreign trip in 2021.

On Sunday, Garba Shehu, spokesperson for the president, announced that Buhari would travel to the UK to attend the 26th Conference of Parties (CoP26) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and head to France afterwards.

The UK and France trips would mark the sixth and seventh time the president would be travelling this year.

On March 30, President Buhari travelled to London for a routine medical check, his first since the COVID-19 outbreak. He again travelled to London on July 27 for the Global Education Summit on Financing Global Partnership for Education (GPE) 2021-2025.

Two months later, on September 24, the president addressed the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) during its 76th session, after arriving days earlier. He would again travel on October 3 to Addis Ababa where he attended the inauguration of Abiy Ahmed, Ethiopian Prime Minister.

On October 25, he again traveled to Saudi Arabia to attend the Future Investment Initiative Institute conference and offer prayers for Nigeria.

Buhari has been faulted by Nigerians on many occasions for not spending enough time in the country to tackle the myriad of challenges, including insecurity, facing it.

He has also been faulted for not properly handing over as constitutionally mandated ahead of his medical trips, and not patronising the country’s health facilities.
