Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has been suspended by his ward in Kano State over allegations of corruption.

On Monday, executive members of Ganduje’s ward in the Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of Kano disclosed his suspension.

Haladu Gwaju, the legal adviser of the ward, said that ward members agreed to suspend him due to his inability to clear his name of allegations of gross misconduct and misappropriation of funds levelled against him by the Kano State Government.

“We the leaders of the APC in the Ganduje ward, Dwakin-Tofa Local Government engaged in thorough deliberations and subsequently decided to suspend the erstwhile governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje, in light of the allegations of bribery involving foreign currency”

“It has come to our attention that Ganduje has been summoned to court to answer for these accusations, a development that we believe could besmirch the reputation of our esteemed political party.

“Because of this, we have reached a resolution to pass a vote of no-confidence on Ganduje and to collectively on behalf of all executive members of the APC in Ganduje ward, Dawakin Tofa to suspend him until he clears his name and that of his family in court,” said Gwaju.

FIJ had in April, reported how the Kano State Government filed a court case against Ganduje over the claim that he collected bribes from contractors. This is not unrelated to a 2017 viral video published by the Daily Nigerian newspaper showing Ganduje stashing dollar currencies into his pockets.

Before this court case, there had been several unsuccessful attempts to charge Ganduje in court. However, Ganduje will be arraigned with his wife and six other people in the Kano State High Court on April 17.

On April 9, the Kano State Government declared its readiness to produce 15 witnesses to testify against Ganduje before Justice Usman Na’aba on April 17.
