B-GAG HEALTHY Medicine Syrup has been distributed in five Nigerian states as a drug for bladder problems and urinary tract infections (UTIs) since January, but the product is illegal.

The B-GAG syrup bottle lists potash, lemon grass, lemon and water as its main ingredients.

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) denounced this syrup on Friday.

“The product (B-GAG HEALTHY Medicine Syrup) is presented in a pet bottle and was discovered during Surveillance activities carried out by the Agency’s Post Marketing Surveillance Directorate Officers in Maiduguri, Borno, and Keffi, Nasarawa States,” NAFDAC shared.

“The product was found to be without NAFDAC Registration number and with misleading labelling information.

“The illegal marketing of medicines or counterfeit medicines poses a risk to people’s health, since by not complying with the regulatory provisions, the safety, quality, and efficacy of such products are not guaranteed.”

Nasarawa, Borno and Kano are the states NAFDAC explicitly mentioned. However, the extent of supply chain infiltration in the country remains unknown.

B-GAG HEALTHY Medicine Syrup is manufactured by Babban Gida Agalawa General Enterprises in Kano State.

Babban Gida Agalawa General Enterprises is located, according to the drug’s leaflet, on 883/884 Western Bypass Ring Road, Kumbosto Local Government Area, Kano State.
