President Muhammadu Buhari has said the federal government would wait for states to take decisions on the reports of various judicial panels of inquiry set up to address cases of police brutality and violence during last year’s #EndSARS protests.

He said this on Thursday at the state house, Abuja, while receiving Antony Blinken, the United States Secretary of State.

According to Femi Adeshina, Buhari’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, the president said, “We at the federal have to wait for the steps taken by the states, and we have to allow the system to work. We can’t impose ideas on them. Federal government has to wait for the reaction of the states.”

The Lagos state judicial panel of inquiry’s report submitted 13 months after inauguration leaked on Tuesday, sparking reactions among Nigerian youths. The report also recommends that the federal government take actions against culpable parties.
