The Enugu State Police Command on Friday dismissed Edem Ebong, an inspector attached to a lottery company, for shooting and killing five people back in June.

His dismissal was contained in a statement signed by Daniel Ndukwe, spokesman of the command, and approved by Muri Musa, Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 13.

Although the police confirmed they had concluded preliminary investigation, they said Ebong would be subjected to prosecution before a court of suitable jurisdiction, where his fate would be determined.

Ebong, who was attached to the Special Protection Unit, Base 9, Umuahia, Abia State, on Sunday, June 20, went on a shooting spree in Golf Estate, GRA, Enugu, killing five and injuring four.

While his actions baffled the police, Mohammed Aliyu, the state commissioner of police, said Ebong committed the crime for “unjustifiable reasons” while on duty at a lottery company within the estate. However, Aliyu did not mention when Ebong would be charged to court.

FIJ made several calls to Daniel Ndukwe but they were unanswered. A text message sent to his phone was also not responded to.
