On Tuesday, a heavy-duty truck ran over several students of the Ojodu Grammar School in Lagos, killing and injuring many of them.

Eyewitnesses said the truck driver drove carelessly to avoid Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO) before it crushed the students on their way home in the Ojodu-Berger area of Lagos.

Following the unfortunate incident, several students of the school took to the streets, protesting the killing of their schoolmates, and in response, police officers shot tear gas cannisters into the school compound.

In a video widely shared on Twitter, seven armed police officers were seen forcefully gaining entrance into the school compound after the shooting.

“This afternoon, a truck accidentally killed some students in the Ojodu area of Lagos. In response to the accident, some other students of the school went on a protest, and this is how men of the Nigerian Police Force responded to the protest,” Demola of Lagos, one of the Twitter users who shared the video, said.

A woman’s voice is heard in the video cursing the brutal officers. Several other voices are also heard lamenting the uncivilised response of the officers to the incident.
