Habib Sheidu, co-founder of AdvoKC Foundation, on Saturday, announced the launch of Promise Meter, a civic-tech platform targeted at deepening citizen participation in governance, and accountability in Nigeria.

The digital platform by Advokc, a youth-led civic-tech organisation aimed at deepening truth in Nigerian politics, both at the national and sub-national levels, allows citizens to hold its elected public officials accountable after months of monitoring on Substack.

In Nigeria, citizens are inspired to vote for the candidate or political party whose campaign promises agree with their social, economic, and political needs, but are always disappointed when these promises are not kept. AdvoKC’s main feature is the Promise Meter which tracks campaign promises in order to inform citizens on how well elected officials fulfil their promises.

Advokc digital platform leverages on technology through its data-driven Promise Meter to monitor promises made during political campaigns. With different ratings such as “In the Works,” “Compromise,” “Stalled,” “Promise Kept” and “Promise Broken,” AdvoKC Promise Meter will help citizens make informed decisions during elections.

“We will be working with local actors, journalists and grass-root mobilisers to strengthen our work in the grassroot,” said Habib Sheidu, AdvoKC’s Co-Founder/Research Lead. “Our team uses a non-partisan process to track and publish promises.”
