Damola Olatunji, a Nollywood actor, and his personal assistant are being detained at Area P Police Division, Abule Egba, Lagos State.

Their detention came a day after the actor prevented a police officer from extorting a motorcyclist in the same area. In a video widely shared on social media, Olatunji was heard saying one of the police officers slapped his PA.

“When we talk about the Nigeria Police, we have the good ones and the bad ones. Examples of the bad ones are the ones you are seeing right now in Abule Egba. They are extorting people of their hard-earned money,” he said in the video recorded on Monday.

“And this one had the guts to take my phone because I was recording them. He had the guts to slap my PA and collect his phone.”

The video was later deleted after the police seized his phone and subsequently arrested him and his PA on Tuesday.

In another video which surfaced on Facebook, a crowd was seen following a police truck, and a background voice heard saying, “they are taking Damola away, without committing a crime”.

FIJ gathered that police officers attached to Area P Police Station are responsible for the actor’s arrest and detention.
