The family of Timothy Adegoke, the MBA student of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, who died under mysterious circumstances in November, remains in the dark more than two weeks after the Nigeria Police Force received the report of the autopsy conducted on the deceased’s body.

On Friday, Olugbade Adegoke, elder brother of Timothy, said the police had not briefed his family on the outcome.

“We still have not officially heard from the force headquarters on the outcome of the autopsy that was done. I strongly believe they are still carrying out their investigations just to ensure that justice is served,” he told FIJ.

Tunji Disu, head of Intelligence Response Team (IRT), the unit in charge of the investigation, told FIJ he was not at liberty to discuss the ongoing investigation with the press.

However, Frank Mba, force headquarters spokesperson, said the Nigeria Police is working to ensure justice is served. “It is better to err on the part of custom than err on the part of facts,” Mba told FIJ.

“It is better for us to do the right thing, even if it takes time, than hurriedly do it and do it badly. Naturally, globally, everywhere in the world, the wheel of justice is not a fast rolling wheel. It grinds slowly, but surely, it eventually gets the job done.

“Once we get the job done, we will, in the most responsible, transparent and accountable manner, announce to Nigerians what our findings are.”

Adegoke had travelled to Ile-Ife from Abuja on November 5 with the hope of sitting for exams at the OAU Distance Learning Centre. He was initially declared missing on November 7, but his corpse was later found near Hilton Hotel and Resorts, Ile-Ife.

Rahmon Adedoyin, the owner of the hotel, and six others are currently in custody as the police investigate the strange death.
