The remains of Desmond Tutu, Nobel Peace Prize winner and South African anti-Apartheid fighter, on Thursday, arrived at St. George’s Cathedral in Cape Town, where it will lie in state for two days.
Tutu, who passed away on December 26, returned to the same cathedral where he served as Archbishop and fought against Apartheid, helping South Africans to a more inclusive democracy over 20 years ago.
His body was received by Thabo Makgoba, current archbishop and Tutu’s replacement.
Tutu, who died on Sunday at the age of 90, will be buried on Saturday, January 1, 2022.
