02.02.2022 Featured In Ekiti, ‘Fulani Kidnappers’ Ask Woman for N30m to Save Husband’s Life

Motunrayo Shittu, a resident of Ekiti State, has called on Nigerians to assist her in raising funds to pay a ransom for her husband’s freedom.

Shittu said her husband was out and she expected him back on Sunday, knowing he was close to their house, but he never returned.

She said she called him around 5 pm on Sunday, but his line was off. Worried, she kept calling him, but he was unreachable.

“By 8 pm on Monday, these Fulani people called, saying they wanted a ransom of N30 million. Where do they expect me to get that type of money from? I have been trying my best. As of now, we have N1.750 million,” she said in a video.

Shittu said when the Fulani herdsmen called her on Tuesday, she said she had N1.750 million, but they hurled insults at her.

In a phone conversation circulating online, one kidnapper tells Shittu her husband will be killed if she fails to pay the ransom by noon on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Shittu said on her WhatsApp status that the kidnappers gave her till the end of the week to pay a ransom.

“I am calling on fellow Nigerians to assist me with whatever they can,” she said.

FIJ placed several calls to Sunday Abutu, the Ekiti State Police spokesperson, but he did not pick up his calls. He had not responded to a text sent to him at press time.
