The family of Timothy Adegoke, the MBA student of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, who died under mysterious circumstances in November, is seeking legal help to bring Adegoke’s killer to justice.

Speaking with FIJ on Thursday, a day after hearing began on the matter at a High Court in Gudu, Abuja, Olugbade Adegoke, elder brother of the deceased, said he found legal help necessary after his experience in court on Wednesday.

“We only learned that preliminary hearing on my brother’s case had been scheduled for Wednesday when I called the IPO in charge of the case on Tuesday night,” he said.

“How I could make it to Abuja in the company of a few friends was a miracle. I would not want to go into details on what led to getting the information late, but we need legal aid in our quest to get justice for my brother.”

FIJ gathered that when the request for the hearing to be transferred to Osogbo was brought up, Modupe Osho-Adebiyi, the presiding judge, stated that since it was a criminal case, it could be heard anywhere in the country.

“It was embarrassing because by the time we got to court, proceedings had already started. Rahmon Adedoyin brought several Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) to court to intimidate everyone present.”

Olugbade also said charges had been read to Rahmon Adegoke, the owner of Hilton Hotel and Resort, Ile-Ife, where Timothy was lodged prior to his mysterious death, and six other accused persons, before he could make it to the court.

“All I can say at the moment is that we need all the help we can get as a family. My brother’s death must not be in vain,” said Olugbade.

“Right after the proceeding ended, I received another threat from one of Rahmon Adedoyin’s aides. He said if I was man enough, I should spend the night in Abuja. Adedoyin himself was also raining curses on me. He brought about ten lawyers to court,” the deceased brother added.

The remains of 37-year-old Adegoke was laid to rest in Eruwa, his hometown in Oyo State, last Saturday.

The next court date for the case is February 8.
