Access Bank has successfully processed the tuition belonging to Ruth Adewole, a Nigerian master’s student at the University of the West of England, Bristol, United Kingdom.

This confirmation came from the student in a chat with FIJ on Thursday morning.

“After your story, someone from the bank reached out to me yesterday, apologising for the error and letting me know that all hands were on deck to get the issue resolved as soon as possible,” said Adewole.

“Moments later, they sent me a message saying the transaction was now successful, and has been sent to the correct beneficiary. It was also stated in the message that both the telex copy and the process flow would be shared with me for clarification.

“Soft copies of the telex and process flow bearing my name and other details were eventually sent to me as promised. I can say issue has now been resolved.”

In January, Adewole had paid her tuition, using her Access Bank account. However, after she was debited with  N1,053,348.96, being the equivalent of the £1,800 tuition, the bank sent her a receipt bearing another person’s name.

Process flow with the right information

The student immediately reached out to the bank, letting its officials know her transaction had been wrongfully processed.

The student would later begin to nurse the fear that she had been defrauded, when the bank continued to show no sign that it was working to get the issue resolved.

The resolution confirmation eventually came, barely a day after FIJ published a story on the issue.
