A student of the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), Agbani, Enugu State, has lamented an impending loss of three admission offers due to the school‘s negligence in processing his transcript.

The student, who asked not to be named, said the school is yet to provide any update despite receiving payment for the transcript since July 2021.

The payment receipt

“I submitted online through the university’s i-transcript portal and paid about eight months ago. I need this transcript for some applications I am processing, including a postgraduate admission, in the UK or Canada,” he told FIJ.

“No update whatsoever has been provided regarding my application and all efforts to contact the university and the unit responsible have yielded no result.

“I am at a loss on what to do, having paid N35,000 to the school. I live in the north now, while the university is in the east; as such, I am unable to travel all the way.

“I relied on the transcript online portal floated by the university, not knowing it was a trap to swindle people out of their money without doing anything regarding their application after payment.”

The student lost two admission offers, as he did not have the transcript to proceed.

“I could not accept the offers since they were conditional. Automatically, I could not proceed with the admission without it,” he said.

“Right now, I have three admission offers from the University of Liverpool, University of Sussex and University of Dundee. I was to resume in January, but I differed to September. If I had my transcript, I would have commenced my studies.

“I tried to get a contact to call in the school, but the only one I got was that of the VC’s secretary, who kept telling me to call back.

“I found a chat box on the i-transcript website, where I could issue my complaints. Their responses were not useful and the person I was chatting appeared to be a robot.”

FIJ attempted to reach the school, but the line displayed on the i-transcrpit portal could not be reached. A text message sent to the number had not been responded to at press time.
