Odesola Oluwafemi, a Twitter user, has accused EgyptAir, an airline, and Travelstart, a travel agency, of mistreatment and attempting to steal his money.

Odesola had booked a flight with EgyptAir through Travelstart on January 18, but on arriving at the airport, he and his wife were turned away. An official of the airline told them a new law regarding vaccination came into effect the same day and was bounding on them.

“I was just told we had to be fully vaccinated and wait for 14 days after the second jab before we could travel. That’s a lie! We may not be fully vaccinated. That doesn’t stop us from traveling,” said Oluwafemi.

“All we just need to do is to fill a passenger locator form which we filled, despite our full vaccination status.

“Our only offence was that we didn’t wait for 14 days after full vaccination, and that requires having a negative PCR, which was just brought to our notice at the airport.

“How that should affect us is still of major concern to me and to say that it was not requested for at the port of entry in the UK says much about the ineptitude and insensitivity of the airline.

“Rather than tell us what to do, they were hostile to us and sent us away as if we were animals.

“I had to rush to book Emirates Airline that same day for N775,800 for myself and my wife.

“These are too many losses in a day for me on account of the EgyptAir Lagos crew’s insensitivity and poor customer relations.

“All attempts to reach Travelstart that day also proved futile. I did everything I could do but got no response till the flight took off.”

When Odesola demanded a refund, EgyptAir referred him to Travelstart for payment.

“I paid N423,101.00. Travelstart only offered me a refund of N117,409.92 per person on the 14th of February. That amounts to only N234,819.84 with a shortfall of about N188,281.16,” he said.

“They asked me to supply my account details for that amount and I felt it was cheating.

EgyptAir had not responded to FIJ’s enquiry at press time. Also, Travelstart could not be reached via phone call. A text message sent to them has not been responded to.
