Obinna Gabriel, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member in Ayegbami community in Ilorin, Kwara State, has narrated how he ensured the reconstruction of the community’s link road.

In a series of tweets on Friday, he described the poor state of the road when he first saw it 10 months ago and how he ensured its reconstruction, as his NYSC project.

According to Gabriel, the erosion that overtook the road had claimed the lives of two children, cut off the community from seven others, and forced businesses to shut down.

“It was the biggest challenge in Ayegbami,” he wrote. “I had just arrived as a Corps member 10months ago. I was told the erosion had claimed two kids, businesses closed, inaccessibility to about seven other communities, etc. Overwhelmed with compassion, I swore I’d do something about it.”

As part of efforts to ensure the reconstruction of the road, he wrote to individuals and contacted various media houses. His efforts got the attention of the constituency’s federal lawmaker. Subsequently, the reconstruction of the road was included in the community’s budget and completed on Saturday.

Celebrating the successful completion of the project, Gabriel wrote: “Fast forward to today, Ayegbami community’s link road has been fixed. I’m so excited and grateful to God Almighty. It was worth all the stress.”
