Femi Aramide, an entrepreneur regained freedom in March after spending seven months in Ibara Prison, Abeokuta, Ogun State, for refusing to pay a commercial motorcyclist N250.

On August 6, 2021, Aramide boarded an okada and refused to pay the rider the agreed amount of N250. The rider reported him to a nearby police station, where he was arrested. Unable to perfect his bail, Aramide was charged to court for belonging to a cult.

“The police accused him of belonging to a cult because a cutlass was found on him. He uses the cutlass to clear grasses around his work place,” Silver Obioha, his legal representative, told FIJ.

In January, his case was referred to Headfort Foundation, the prison reform initiative that would help secure his release.
