Aarinola Awokoya has bemoaned the current state of the pedestrian bridge in Berger, Lagos.

In a series of tweets on Monday, the Lagos resident said the bridge had become “a full-blown market”.

Suspecting that the traders might have been paying dues to the Berger Local Government Authority, Awokoya asked if Lagos streets would ever be orderly enough to justify its ‘centre of excellence’ tag.

“Dear @followlasg @jidesanwoolu, this is the current state of the Berger pedestrian bridge. It is a full-blown market. I am not even sure if these traders aren’t paying dues to the LGA! Why do we try to solve one problem and & create another? Why is Lagos state so lacking of discipline?” she wrote on Twitter.

“When will we ever have a beautiful, scenic, orderly, disciplined city worthy of being called ‘centre of excellence’? Why waste money conducting pedestrian bridges if they will serve a different purpose?”

Several Lagos residents who commented on the tweet said the situation was similar at many other major bus stops in the state as pedestrians had to squeeze themselves among a host of traders and beggars lining the stairs.
