Olaide Majeyagbe, a fashion designer, has narrated how a bus driver and a conductor robbed her in Osi Ota, Ogun State.

Majeyagbe said she was coming from her place of work at about 7:30 pm on Monday and boarded a shuttle going to Oju Ore from Command, Lagos State.

There were five passengers on the bus alongside the driver and the conductor, she told FIJ. The other four passengers got off the bus just prior to arriving in Osi Ota, Ogun State.

“I sat in the last seat, closely beside the window. I expected that the conductor would call in more passengers as we were going, because it had always been their culture. I was surprised when he didn’t call any,” she said.

Jokingly, she asked the conductor if he had made good sales for the day. Majeyagbe said he answered her in an aggressive manner, telling her to mind her business.

“I was still less suspicious when he said this because I believed that was how they talked. Just before we got to the Osi Ota roundabout, the driver made a turn to a street I didn’t even know. I told him this was not the place I was going, but he told me to keep quiet. He said I couldn’t dictate to him,” Majeyagbe told FIJ.

The bus driver suddenly stopped the bus and told her to get down. She said she was reluctant but the conductor forcefully pushed her out of the vehicle and told her to submit her phones and other valuables.

“I withdrew N30,000 at Command Bus Stop before entering the bus. I also had my phones with me, a Tecno Camon 16 and a small Nokia phone. While I was still unwilling to drop the money and the phone, the conductor brought out a sharp knife. I gave the phones and money to them immediately,” said Majeyagbe.

She also said the conductor and the bus driver slapped her and beat her after collecting her valuables.

“These people told me not to bother to report them to the police because they could never be found. I had to find my way to the Osi-Ota bus stop and begged for money from business owners to go home,” she said.

Majeyagbe said she had not been able to visit the police station since then,  as she traveled to Ibadan the following day.
