11.04.2021 news Gunmen in Imo Abduct Family of Five Returning from Wedding

A Nigerian on Twitter has cried out over the abduction of his family members by Gunmen in Imo State.

In a tweet on Sunday, ‘Papa Ejima’ said his parents, cousin and uncle were kidnapped in the Okigwe area of Imo State while returning from a wedding.

He said he was not spared in the abduction but was later released, alongside his mother, to find the N30million ransom for the release of the other abductees.

“My dad, My mum, my cousin, My uncle and I were kidnapped yesterday by gunmen around Okigwe area of Imo state as we were returning from my cousins wedding around 5pm. My Mum and I were released and told to get 30million ready by today,” he said.

Since December 2020 when a Catholic Bishop was kidnapped, Imo State has made the news several times over abduction and gunmen activities.

Three weeks ago, Chief Chima Awurum, President General of Oluwe Nneiri community in Isiala Mbano Council Area of Imo State, was whisked away by gunmen.

The traditional ruler of Umuezie Community in Uguru, Aboh Mbaise Local Government was kidnapped in a similar fashion on Wednesday, alongside his cabinet, while returning from a traditional wedding ceremony.

And on Monday, Nigerians woke up to the news of gunmen attack on a prison facility in Owerri, during which nearly 2,000 inmates escaped.
