Segun Aiyetan, a musical artist with the stage name Foelyjoe, has narrated how policemen in Mile 2, Lagos, extorted N9,500 from him.

In a series of tweets, Aiyetan said he was leaving the mainland for an appointment at Sangotedo in Eti-Osa Local Government, when he was stopped by the police officers at Mile 2 area on April 27.

The artist wrote that the officers first demanded to know where he was headed and what he did for a living.

He said he provided appropriate responses to all questions asked and also showed them his international passport when his identity card was requested.

“I was with my international passport and that is the only identification I have with me but I said if he (one of the police officers) doesn’t mind [sic], I can browse my name on google, that was after he searched my phone, he told me to go ahead [sic],” Aiyetan wrote.

Foelyjoe stated that after showing the officers his profile on Google, he was asked to call his manager to confirm his real name.

“…I showed him Foelyjoe on google and the next thing was can you call your manager so we can be sure you are real the name you show us on google [sic]. Told him that I had no manger except my mother and my producer like play like play they force me into their bus [sic],” Aiyetan explained.

“I called my mom and put my phone on speaker I gave him the phone back to talk to my mom he hung up and seized my phone when I was trying to get people’s attention [sic].”

The artist said he was beaten by the policemen. He also said the officers seized his phone while the assault continued.

Aiyetan would eventually pay N8,000 to the officers before he was allowed to leave. He also said he gave another N2,500 to one of the policemen before his phone could be given back to him.

The artiste said one of the officers later gave him N1,000 from the money collected from him as transport fare.
