The Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has claimed that the military has recovered 10 of the 12 weapons seized from the soldiers killed by armed bandits in the Konshisha Local Government Area of the state.

This development came following the invasion of vengeful soldiers into the community, allegedly killing, looting and raping women in the name of hunting for the killers of their colleagues.

According to Daily Trust, the governor said this during an expanded State Security Council meeting held at Government House in Makurdi, the state capital.

Ortom added that the four men handed over to the police for further interrogation were to assist in the investigation that would ensure that the soldiers’ killers are arrested.

According to the governor, the four elders detained by the police are Sam Kave, the vice chairman of Konshisha LGA; Tersoo Mela a Councillor; Emmanuel Adegbenda, clan head of Mbator; and Unaha Koko, the district head of Iwuarayam.

He said: “We haven’t slept in making sure to recover the arms. We have been able to do a lot of recovery. One AK-47 was earlier recovered by the military and eight others by the process we established by ourselves.

“Out of the 12 taken away by the bandits, we have recovered eight plus the one recovered by the military, it brings the number to nine. A machine gun has also been recovered.”
