Olamilekan Tasoolo, a football pundit, has recounted how police officers from the Area J Police Command in Lagos extorted N100,000 from him after severely beating him on Saturday.

Tasoolo told FIJ he was driving along the Lekki-Ajah Road on Saturday when some officers ordered him to stop. The analyst said he also had two of his friends in the car during the period.

He stated that after he parked, an officer started talking to one of his friends who had alighted from the car.

“While they were talking, I took a picture of my friend and the police officer he was talking to. After that, I started checking my Twitter feed,” Tasoolo said.

The pundit said it only took a matter of seconds before one of the police officers rushed to where he was and accused him of taking videos of them.

Tasoolo said he told the officer that he was checking his Twitter timeline and not taking videos of them but he did not believe him.

“I admitted to taking pictures of my friend and the officer who spoke to him, but he insisted that I was making videos of them,” he said.

“I had not even talked for long when he slapped me several times. Others also joined him in beating me. Then they took me to their police station.”

Tasoolo thought the police officers were taking him to see the Divisional Police Officer (DPO). However, the policemen took him to the back of the station.

“They started beating me and calling me a Yahoo boy at the back of the station. I asked them why they called me a fraudster, and they asked me how I could afford the car I drive,” he said.

Tasoolo said he explained to them that he made money as an influencer. He also said he told them he was a football pundit but they did not listen to him.

“They collected my phone and accused me of fraud. I showed them everything, but these people still collected N100,000 from me before allowing me to go,” he said.

“They took me to a PoS shop where I transferred N100,000 to them. I think the PoS man works with them. I noted the officers’ names: Harrison AI, Fatai Oyekunle, and Edet.”

When FIJ called Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos State Police Spokesperson, he said the complainant should go to the Area J Command to document his issue.

“If he goes to the Area J Command to document his issue, the necessary action will start from there,” Hundeyin said.
