Arinze Uche, a Lagos-based civil servant, has accused Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) of delaying a N2,211,717.13 tuition he is expected to pay before the commencement of his master’s programme at Teesside University, Middlesbrough, United Kingdom.

Uche told FIJ that an official of the bank’s branch in Shomolu, Lagos, assured him that the payment would be processed without any glitch in March.

“My account officer at GTBank called me to say I should wait for two weeks for my Form A request to be processed,” Uche said.

“I waited for two weeks but nothing was done. I called him again and he said I should wait for another one week. After the one week elapsed, he stopped picking my calls.”

The civil servant also added that he risks forfeiting the admission offer if the payment is not made before May 6.

“If I lose this admission due to this epilectic service from GTBank, it will be very painful. It would also mean that I would have to start the process all over again, which I find unacceptable,” Uche said.

“My other colleagues, who processed the same tuition through other banks, got it done without hassles within two weeks.

“I have been patient for a month since I filled the Form A request and submitted all other relevant documents. I also made sure that my account was sufficiently funded before making the request. This admission took me three years to gain and now GTBank wants to kill my dreams.”

FIJ made several phone calls to Cornelius Onuoha, one of GTBank’s consultants, but he did not answer them. He had also not replied to a text message sent to him at press time.
