Chinedu Kingsley, a Lagos-based petty trader, has accused Kuda Bank and the Ikeja Electric Distribution Company (IKEDC) of withholding 2000 naira meant for his electricity bill in March.

The petty trader told FIJ that he initiated the payment for his prepaid metre on March 2 and waited endlessly for a token to be sent to him but it never came.

“It is now 2 months since this incident happened yet I have not seen my money. I initiated the electricity purchase via Kuda App and I waited for the token as usual but it never came. I reached out to them on Twitter via Direct Messaging. They only answered two days later asking that I contact Ikeja Electricity,” Kingsley said.

Kingsley told FIJ that when he contacted IKEDC, he received a response saying that the transaction did not get to them.

“After IKEDC told me that, I tried reaching out to Kuda again but none of its officials would pick my call. After week later, they answered my call and said I should give them 5 working days.

“Till today, both Kuda and IKEDC have refused to refund my money. If they can treat a N2,000 transaction like it is meaningless, it means they are capable of treating transactions involving huge amounts the same way,” Kingsley said.

FIJ made several phone calls to Kuda and IKEDC for comments but they were not answered. Text messages sent to them have also not been responded to at press time.
