The Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP), a faction of Boko Haram, has attacked Geidam, the headquarters of Geidam Local Government Area of Yobe State, killing and injuring residents after engaging in a gun battle with soldiers.

Geidam is the hometown of Baba Alkali, the acting Inspector-General of the Nigeria Police Force.

Although PRNigeria, an online publication that circulates security information, reported that the attack had been foiled by army troops assisted by fighter helicopters from the Nigerian Airforce (NAF), reports from locals say the insurgents are still raiding the community, despite interventions from security operatives.

FIJ gathered that the terrorists have hoisted their flags in the community and are distributing a pamphlet inviting residents to join them.

The pamphlet, obtained by FIJ, explained the ideology of the insurgents and stated that they are happy to accept anyone who is willing to repent and join them.

Written in the Hausa Language, the pamphlet was titled: ‘Joining the Islamic State’ carries the ISWAP logo. It was shared to the residents in an attempt to woo them into the terror group.

A part of the pamphlet claims to have come with “good news” to members of the community.

“Any Muslim that is not fighting our Islamic State is free from us, so long he is obeying the rules of Allah,” a part of the pamphlet reads. ” Anybody who repents from polytheism and obeys Allah is free from us.”

A section of the pamphlet also lists the targets of terrorists as “polytheists, Christians and other disbelievers”.

“We’re fighting whoever is fighting Islam, even if he claims to be a Muslim,” it adds.
