The Ogun State Police Command has begun the trial of its men who extorted N153,000 from Hezekiah Oluwaponmile, a student of Lagos State University (LASU) on Saturday.

They have also returned the money to the victim.

This development came after FIJ reported how three armed policemen forced Hezekiah to transfer the sum N150,000 to the account of a Point of Sale (POS) operator who is suspected to be their accomplice, having himsel received N3,000.

Heekiah was on his way to Abeokuta, from Ibadan Oyo State, when the officers led him out of the car and extorted him at gunpoint.

Following FIJ’s story, the police refunded him on Sunday and invited him to witness the trial of the erring officers on Monday.

“My money has been returned to me in full, and the officers have been detained,” Hezekiah told FIJ after witnessing the trial.

Edward Awolowo, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, had ordered the immediate arrest of the three mobile policemen and pledged their dismissal.

Commenting, Abiodun Owoyemi, the Ogun State Police spokesperson, said although the money had been recovered and returned to the victim, the culprits would not go scot-free.
